This month I am trying to complete projects that were started before and after my moms stroke.  Several seasons have passed by and we’ve been busy here in TN.  While I was in SC with mom, my hubby had a our basement garage converted into a good sized bedroom with double closets. When mom and I moved back in August 2017, Mike and I moved our high school graduate from his domain in the basement to our master bedroom upstairs and us downstairs so I could be close to my mom.  Mike is in the process of building us a Walk-In Closet (Yay!).  I can’t wait for our belongings to find a better place than boxes and piles around our room.

We also cleaned out the stacks of papers, blankets, and most of the junk that had been cluttering our guest room upstairs, mentioned in this post.  I still need to relocate the armoire to mom’s room for storage, sell the love-seat, tear down the navy all-in-one shelving unit, and paint.  New closet doors will replace the hollow wood sliding ones and BAM, we’ll be ready to decorate!

I have decided to have a desk in our bedroom to work from vs using the guest room as an office.  I believe our guest room will stay in use all year with visitors for the Holidays and those traveling to see mom.

Guest Bedroom: The design plan for this project is to combine a guest bedroom, mobile desk, and media in one location.  The plan to accomplish this is to include a Murphy Bed that can be put away when not in use or daybed with pop up trundle, wall mounted television with a wall of shelving, large room rug,and a narrow desk on casters with a small seat or bench. The theme is Elegant Comfort.

We’re going to keep the walls neutral and light because this is a small room and keep the decorations functional yet relaxing.

Keep checking for updates.  We’re also almost finished with our Laundry Closet turned Pantry!  Check back for pictures on that project as well.

Beginning after the first of the year we are taking a break from our home and starting renovations on our son’s condo in Nashville, TN.  We have to get a structural engineer to review some things for us there then we will be able to move forward. This will be a project that will last for several months, up to a year. I will show before and after and take you through the process.  This condo was purchased as a fixer upper and we have barely scratched the surface. We have started painting the walls (not finished) since we closed on this property in July 2015.  I am excited to be completing some of these projects and to live more functionally.

Until next time…xoxox, Dawn

Blog Update

Normaly I’m the type of person who likes schedules.  I like rules and black and white with no grey in my work life, mostly.  Cupcakes are always allowed!  But I’ve been treating Roots Before Branches Blog like a job.  I started my blog one month ago as a creative outlet for myself.  Lately, I have become a stats watcher and this creative outlet has become another job.  I love sharing my life experiences with any who want to see, but this weekend I made a decision to not be ruled by schedules on my time away from work as a Dental Hygienist.  At work our days are held to such rigorous scheduling that I can’t pass that structure along to my play time.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my job as a Dental Hygienist, and love the people I work with.  I believe that even when I no longer see patients (hopefully not til I’m at least 80!) that I will still be an educator in Dental Care.  However, as Dental Professionals we are held to a high level of care and devotion to our patients.  And as such we try to live our daily work days on schedule…most times effected by emergencies, patients themselves, or taking the much needed time to educate so that our patients have clear understanding of what is going on for their particular needs and conditions.  All of this takes precious time and we jump through hoops to remain on schedule for our next patient to receive that same high level of care and attention.  This can be exhaustive in effort and deed on a daily basis, but love it all the same!  I work two days per week and though it may not sound like a lot of time out of my schedule, I am a full time mother, wife, and animal tamer (4 dogs, 1 cat and a Sugar Glider) and have a two story house in need of my immediate attention to detail.  My point is this, I have been so worried about who’s following me on Twitter, Instagram, my blog, Bloglovin, and Facebook and getting content out there on a 3 post schedule that the rest of my world has been neglected.  And, I feel as though what started out as fun, has become one more chore to my list.  So, I’m taking a step back.  I am going to post once a week by Saturday of each week.  It will be on Dental concerns, what’s happening in my life now, and a mixture of trips, fashion finds (bargins), etc.  This is what I wanted this blog to be about.  If no one follows, I’m not going to worry because in the end this is about me.  I thank everyone in advance for following or keeping up with what’s happening, and as always, I welcome comments unless they are mean or cruel.  I think life is full of enough crap already.

By the way, I’m standing with both of my boys in my featured image.  They grow up soooo quickly.   This was taken in 2014, at Panama City Beach our last night there (hubby had already left for home for a fishing tournament).  Hopefully, we’ll get to return to PCB soon!  Had a blast!

Until next time, y’all have a day full of Blessings!!!!

contactHello everyone…

Last night, while I was trying to add a button to my site, my site crashed.  It took 3 hrs just to be able to view anything and I had to purchase and load a new theme.  Please be patient as I reconfigure my site again.  I’m hoping this new program will be better, more aesthetically pleasing, and easier for me to load more appealing content.

Until next time…

Calling All Prayer Warriors!!!!!

Cancer Bites Funkie Toenails!!!!

When friends are hurting and you love them then you do whatever you can to ease their pain.  We can’t take the pain from them so all we can do is pray, hurt with them, and try not to get outraged at the injustice of wonderful people being affected by this hideous illness.  My friend asked that her friends share her thoughts with as many as we could and so I will…

“I can honestly say this……..I know what cancer and treatment can do to a body and mind as I’ve watched the transformation. I sometimes wonder if the treatment is worth it in the long haul. With a heavy heart today especially. Nothing is more painful than watching someone at the end of their life because of cancer. Trying to look good, but after chemo and radiation … you know the person is physically changed and they’re in shock. I know many of you do not give a hoot about this message because, of course, the cancer has not touched you. You do not know what it’s like to have fought the fight or had a loved one who leads a battle against cancer. For all the men and women I know, I ask you a small favor and only some of you will do it. If you know someone who has led a battle against cancer, still struggling or who passed, please add this to your status for one hour as a mark of support, respect and remembrance. Copy and paste to support those affected by cancer. ”

Thank y’all for keeping her family in your thoughts and prayers!  Until next time…

There is a first time for everything!!!!

I know we have all said this phrase before.  Today is no exception! This Blog is a first for me and I am inviting all who wish to join in the journey.  I am currently setting up my web pages (or rather having someone more capable do it for me) and hope to be up and running in just a few days…weeks…we’ll have to see.  Like I said…a journey.  What I hope to accomplish with this Blog is to have an outlet for my unique personality, make friends along the way, share adventures (both mine and some of yours), and in general share a happy place with some wonderful people.  Until next time…
