The Hermitage

This past August I attended a Dental Meeting in Nashville, TN (more on that in another post…it was awesome) and met another Dental Hygienist from TX.  This was her first trip to Nashville, TN and she wanted to do as many “touristy” things as she could while she was here.  So, we talked a little about various activities that she could do and I ended up volunteering to be her tour guide.  We went to The Hermitage which was Andrew Jackson’s Home during some of his later military career as well as after his Presidency.  The Hermitage is located about 20 minutes from Downtown Nashville, TN.  Although I have lived in TN for 16 yrs., not 2 hrs away, I had never visited this historic site.

We also toured Nashville’s Downtown on Broadway.  We had a blast and I don’t know why I  waited so long to get out and see what was right in my own “backyard”.  Thank you, Norma Jean, for being MY Nashville tour guide!

I wanted to drop a quick post and found a smidgen of time while on vacation.  I just had to share some of these phenomenal views with y’all!  If you have not visited Panama City Beach, Fl., plan this in your future.  Everything you could possibly want is at your fingertips while on vacation, like fantastic restaurants, entertainment, temperate weather and , hello, the ocean! We rented a beach house from Book That Condo that was one block from our private entrance to the beach. No overcrowding and gorgeous views!  Our house had a pool in the back so whether on the beach or back at the house we had unlimited access to the cool, refreshing water.  The Bid-A-Wee Beach House was comfortable and spacious enough for our family of four and two friends with two bedrooms, a set of bunks, a sleeper sofa, and a twin futon.  Panama City Beach has some great deals in the Fall since its past their peak season, the air temp stays in the 80’s during the day/ 60’s in the evening, and yet the water temp is still around 80 degrees.  Win, win right?  This was our first time here during October as normally we have traveled here during the Summer when outside temps have soared to 100 degrees.  I would definitely come again in the Fall and recommend  this for those who love the Sand & Sun vacations without the higher temperatures.

Also I wanted to include my faves for the last day of the SHOPBOP EVENT OF THE SEASON! Shop responsibly…

On The Road Again

ON THE ROAD AGAIN!

Spring Break Road Trip…

Spring Break is finally here, and we are headed to South Carolina to visit Nanny W and go and do.  I have been looking ahead since we made these plans in October 2015 (Fall Break) to see what kind of trouble we could get into (JK).  Plus, I have been sick the last 3 weeks (hence no blog posts) and am finally starting to feel more like myself…Thank you, Lord!  I still sound like a frog but the Dr said that will eventually get better too.
So, first stop on our road trip is The Parthenon  and Centennial Park in Nashville, TN.  Have y’all ever lived somewhere for forever but never explored your own backyard?  Well, that’s us in a nutshell.  We’ve been in TN since 2000, off and on with a couple of duty stations elsewhere, and we never really took advantage of the sights and sounds right around us!

Next stop, Dandridge, TN.  Now you may be wondering why Dandridge?  What’s there?  Well we stop here overnight anytime we travel to SC and /or on the trip back because: 1. It breaks up the time in the car with each other and the Yorkies.  2. It’s a very affordable area in the Smoky Mountains with several economical hotel/motel choices that are pet and kid friendly.  3. It’s a hop, skip, and jump from Sevierville/ Pidgeon Forge/ Gatlinburg/Dollywood without paying those high-end hotel prices.  We stay at The Quality Inn in Dandridge where we get to use our Military discount, have free breakfast every morning, have plenty of grassy areas for the pooches, and they are the friendliest folks!  We have also always been able to park right outside the room, so transferring baggage is a snap.  The rooms are very clean, spacious, have a mini fridge, microwave, single serve coffee maker with all the fixin’s, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, hanging racks for clothes, large screen tv with all the channels you will need, complimentary wi-fi, complimentary shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, desk and chair with a comfy reading chair as well.  They also have a pool for seasonal swimming fun!  So, as we lay our heads down to rest we look forward to the rest of our road trip to come 🐶

Rise and shine, Roadtrippers!
We are off and running to Asheville, NC to have a snack at The Double Decker Coffee & Desserts Cafe!  Then we can walk off those calories in Pack Square Park in Downtown Asheville.  For those who have never visited this gorgeous city, you have missed out!  There is always something to see and do each time you venture there.  One of the more popular sites would, of course, be The Biltmore Estate.  This place is such a revolutionary phenomenon, and a must see.  Give yourself an entire day to visit The Biltmore Estate and tour the grounds.  Another thing that I love about this area is all the shops, restaurants, parks, crafts, and antiques around every corner.  Best to park and walk around to really experience all the photo ops, history, and urban charm.  Or you can catch La Zoom Comedy Bus and tour it on wheels!

Moving on out, we hop on I26 and head to SC.  Mama, here we come, ready or not!
As alway, my precious mother greets us with a smile!  There has never been a more influential presence in my life and I am so fortunate to have been raised by this fantabulous lady!
Since marrying and moving away from Columbia, SC, 19 yrs ago, the city has really been hopping with urban renewal and growth of beautiful vistas and activities.  We have a very relaxed feel in my home state and southern charm abounds.  We usually have many festivals and celebrations throughout the year and Lake Murray is a favorite for the entire family or singles (eyebrow wiggle here).

It’s always hard to leave.  Not because I don’t want to go home (I’m a hermit by nature), but because I’d like to pack my mom and tote her home with me!
As we head down the road in the early morning hours, I’m trying to think ahead to our next stop…
The Sunsphere in Knoxville, TN.

We went to The Sunsphere in Knoxville, TN., however, parking was such a headache, we decided to come back another time and spend a night or two and do Knoxville, TN the right way.  On our way home we found an Old Fashioned Soda Fountain in a Pharmacy quite by accident.  I wanted Josh to at least get to see a representation of what I grew up with. Our pharmacy used to have a Soda Fountain in it and it was a special treat, growing up, to be able to stop in and get a Soda Float, Ice Cream, or an Icee!

When we finally got home, the girls (queen bee Yorkies) were so happy!  They were running amuck!  Josh and I collapsed for the rest of the evening.  After a few well rested days, recovering from Spring Break, I’ll post again :^)  My next post (Monday 4/4/16) will be a product review on the L’Oreal Root Cover Up so check back…I have before & after photos!

If y’all have any questions or comments, let me know on the Get In Touch page or comment section on this post.  I hope all of y’all’s trips are great adventures!

Until next time Roadtrippers…drive safely!

TRAVEL ESSENTIALS- TRIAL & ERROR

MUST HAVES FOR TRAVELING?

YOU KNOW, I HAD AN ENTIRE POST SET UP FOR THIS TOPIC.  I KEPT GOING BACK TO IT AND EDITING AS OUR SPRING BREAK TRIP PROGRESSED.  CAN ANY OF YOU GUESS WHY I HAD TO GO BACK AND EDIT?  YEPPERS!  IF YOU GUESSED BECAUSE MY LIST OF MUST HAVES KEPT CHANGING THEN YOU GUESSED RIGHT!  I STARTED OUT WITH CAREFUL PLANNING BACK IN OCTOBER 2015 FOR THIS TRIP, RIGHT DOWN TO SITES TO SEE ALONG THE WAY.  THEN, WHEN IT CAME TIME FOR THIS TRIP, I WAS HIT WITH A MONTH LONG ILLNESS, I CAN ONLY DESCRIBE AS THE CRUD, AND LAST MINUTE PACKING!  I HAD RESERVED PICTURES IN MY MEDIA LIBRARY OF BEAUTIFUL FRENDS LAYLA EARPHONES & LUXURIOUS PASHMINA WRAPS, AND IN THE END I CAN ONLY SAY THAT WHILE THOSE ARE FABULOUS TO HAVE, WE NEEDED OTHER ITEMS MORE.  SO HERE IS THE LOW DOWN ON WHAT I WISH I HAD PACKED  & WHAT I NEED TO INVEST IN FOR FUTURE TRAVELING…

MAN, I WISH I HAD PACKED

  1. SHORTS– HELLO!!!! SOUTH CAROLINA IS 80 DEGREES RIGHT NOW!
  2. LIGHT-WEIGHT TOPS– AGAIN, 80 DEGREES! THE FUR VEST I BROUGHT IS NOT GOING TO HELP ME!
  3. MORE TOYS FOR BELLA & BOO (YORKIE QUEEN BEES)- BECAUSE ONE TOY= BOREDOM AND/OR A TUG OF WAR!
  4. MY PILLOW– BECAUSE THERE IS NO OTHER SUBSTITUTE. FOUND HERE.
  5. JUST ONE BAG!– ENOUGH SAID.

WHAT I NEED TO INVEST IN

  1. GOOD LUGGAGE– LUGGAGE W/MULTIPLE COMPARTMENTS & COMPLIMENTARY PIECES (GARMENT BAG, ROLLING SMALL, MEDIUM, AND LARGE BAGS, ROLLING WEEKEND W/MEDIA COMPARTMENT, CARRY-ON)
  2. CAMERA– ONE THAT IS IDEAL FOR BLOGGING/VLOGGING W/REMOTE. DO THEY MAKE THAT IN JUST ONE CAMERA?
  3. TRIPOD– BECAUSE SOMETIMES I WANT TO BE LAZY AND CATCH THE VISTAS TOO.
  4. PHOTOGRAPHER– MY SON ABSOLUTELY HATES TO HAVE TO TAKE PICTURES AND MY HUSBAND REFUSES.  PLUS, I FEEL AS THOUGH I COULD REALLY BENEFIT FROM FILTERS & DIFFUSERS :^)
  5. LAPTOP– I HAVE REALLY ENJOYED USING JOSH’S MACBOOK AIR ON THIS TRIP!
  6. BICYCLE W/ STORAGE & BIKE RACK FOR AUTOMOBILE– COLUMBIA, SC HAS SO MANY BEAUTIFUL BIKING AREAS IN THE SPRING WITH THE AZALEA’S & FOLIAGE BLOOMING.  I MENTIONED TO JOSH THAT I NEEDED A BIKE.  I TOLD HIM IT WOULD BE GOOD EXERCISE TOO CAUSE YOU NEVER SEE FAT CYCLISTS, AND HE REPLIED… “THEY EXIST…THEY’RE CALLED BEGINNERS”.  I DIED IN THAT MOMENT & LAUGHED SO BLOOMIN’ HARD I COULDN’T CATCH MY BREATH. THE 3 MEN (HUBBY, JOHN & JOSH) IN MY LIFE ARE SO SARCASTIC FUNNY.  ITS A TRIP TO BE AROUND THEM.
  7. A CHARGING SYSTEM THAT IS UNIVERSAL– LESS CORDS AND ALL THAT!
  8. A TRAVEL MAKE-UP & BRUSH ORGANIZER– I CAN ALWAYS USE MORE ORGANIZATION IN MY LIFE.

LUCKILY, I REMEMBERED MY FAVS

  1. MY TELESCOPIC BACKSCRATCHER– YES, I SAID THAT.  I TAKE THIS EVERYWHERE.  MY BFF “T” HAS BEEN AMAZED WHEN I HAVE PULLED THIS OUT OF MY PURSE AT A DENTAL CONFERENCE TO SCRATCH MY BACK.  IT IS PINK AND PINK IS PURRDY!
  2. IPAD MINI– CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT! IT IS PRECIOUS!
  3. SAMSUNG GALAXY S6– SAMSUNG IS A FAV COMPANY OF MINE BECAUSE THEIR ELECTRONICS HAVE BEEN DEPENDABLE FOR ME.
  4. MY PERSONAL SIZE FILOFAX– I KEEP THIS IN MY PURSE ALWAYS UNLESS I AM FEELING A SMALL CROSSBODY THAT DAY, AND THEN IT WILL BE IN THE CAR.
  5. ORAL B MECHANICAL TOOTHBRUSH– I LOVE THE ORAL B FOR THE CLEANEST FEELING TEETH!
  6. CREST 3D WHITE TOOTHPASTE TRAVEL SIZE– THIS IS A NEW PRODUCT FOR ME.  AFTER BEING A COLGATE USER MY 46 YRS I SWITCHED. THE PATIENTS THAT I SAW IN MY DENTAL PRACTICE WERE COMING IN WITH WELL MAINTAINED WHITE TEETH, EVEN THE COFFEE & TEA DRINKERS! I’LL LET Y’ALL KNOW HOW IT DOES.  SO FAR IT HAS WORKED BETTER  FOR ME THAN THE COLGATE OPTIC WHITE TOOTHPASTE.

I BELIEVE THAT DOES IT FOR NOW.  THESE LISTS WERE COMPILED IN REGARDS TO TRAVEL BY CAR.  I WILL DO A SEPARATE POST ON MY FLIGHT GO TO’S.  PLEASE COMMENT OR USE THE GET IN TOUCH PAGE ON MY SITE TO LET ME KNOW WHAT Y’ALL FIND BEST TO PACK AND WHAT TO LEAVE AT HOME.  PLUS, I GET LONELY TALKING TO MYSELF SOMETIMES.  I WOULD LOVE FOR SOME OF YOU MORE EXPERIENCED BLOGGERS OR PHOTOGRAPHERS TO GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS ON CAMERA’S THAT CAN HELP ME BE BETTER AT CAPTURING MY LIFE AND THAT OF THE WORLD AROUND ME.  I CAN LEARN THROUGH THE KNOWLEDGE OF EXPERIENCE.

UNTIL NEXT TIME…PACK LITE!
