ON THE ROAD AGAIN!
Spring Break Road Trip…
Spring Break is finally here, and we are headed to South Carolina to visit Nanny W and go and do. I have been looking ahead since we made these plans in October 2015 (Fall Break) to see what kind of trouble we could get into (JK). Plus, I have been sick the last 3 weeks (hence no blog posts) and am finally starting to feel more like myself…Thank you, Lord! I still sound like a frog but the Dr said that will eventually get better too.
So, first stop on our road trip is The Parthenon and Centennial Park in Nashville, TN. Have y’all ever lived somewhere for forever but never explored your own backyard? Well, that’s us in a nutshell. We’ve been in TN since 2000, off and on with a couple of duty stations elsewhere, and we never really took advantage of the sights and sounds right around us!
Next stop, Dandridge, TN. Now you may be wondering why Dandridge? What’s there? Well we stop here overnight anytime we travel to SC and /or on the trip back because: 1. It breaks up the time in the car with each other and the Yorkies. 2. It’s a very affordable area in the Smoky Mountains with several economical hotel/motel choices that are pet and kid friendly. 3. It’s a hop, skip, and jump from Sevierville/ Pidgeon Forge/ Gatlinburg/Dollywood without paying those high-end hotel prices. We stay at The Quality Inn in Dandridge where we get to use our Military discount, have free breakfast every morning, have plenty of grassy areas for the pooches, and they are the friendliest folks! We have also always been able to park right outside the room, so transferring baggage is a snap. The rooms are very clean, spacious, have a mini fridge, microwave, single serve coffee maker with all the fixin’s, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, hanging racks for clothes, large screen tv with all the channels you will need, complimentary wi-fi, complimentary shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, desk and chair with a comfy reading chair as well. They also have a pool for seasonal swimming fun! So, as we lay our heads down to rest we look forward to the rest of our road trip to come 🐶
Rise and shine, Roadtrippers!
We are off and running to Asheville, NC to have a snack at The Double Decker Coffee & Desserts Cafe! Then we can walk off those calories in Pack Square Park in Downtown Asheville. For those who have never visited this gorgeous city, you have missed out! There is always something to see and do each time you venture there. One of the more popular sites would, of course, be The Biltmore Estate. This place is such a revolutionary phenomenon, and a must see. Give yourself an entire day to visit The Biltmore Estate and tour the grounds. Another thing that I love about this area is all the shops, restaurants, parks, crafts, and antiques around every corner. Best to park and walk around to really experience all the photo ops, history, and urban charm. Or you can catch La Zoom Comedy Bus and tour it on wheels!
Moving on out, we hop on I26 and head to SC. Mama, here we come, ready or not!
As alway, my precious mother greets us with a smile! There has never been a more influential presence in my life and I am so fortunate to have been raised by this fantabulous lady!
Since marrying and moving away from Columbia, SC, 19 yrs ago, the city has really been hopping with urban renewal and growth of beautiful vistas and activities. We have a very relaxed feel in my home state and southern charm abounds. We usually have many festivals and celebrations throughout the year and Lake Murray is a favorite for the entire family or singles (eyebrow wiggle here).
It’s always hard to leave. Not because I don’t want to go home (I’m a hermit by nature), but because I’d like to pack my mom and tote her home with me!
As we head down the road in the early morning hours, I’m trying to think ahead to our next stop…
The Sunsphere in Knoxville, TN.
We went to The Sunsphere in Knoxville, TN., however, parking was such a headache, we decided to come back another time and spend a night or two and do Knoxville, TN the right way. On our way home we found an Old Fashioned Soda Fountain in a Pharmacy quite by accident. I wanted Josh to at least get to see a representation of what I grew up with. Our pharmacy used to have a Soda Fountain in it and it was a special treat, growing up, to be able to stop in and get a Soda Float, Ice Cream, or an Icee!
When we finally got home, the girls (queen bee Yorkies) were so happy! They were running amuck! Josh and I collapsed for the rest of the evening. After a few well rested days, recovering from Spring Break, I’ll post again :^) My next post (Monday 4/4/16) will be a product review on the L’Oreal Root Cover Up so check back…I have before & after photos!
If y’all have any questions or comments, let me know on the Get In Touch page or comment section on this post. I hope all of y’all’s trips are great adventures!
Until next time Roadtrippers…drive safely!
